Just a reminder , in less than 5 years Britain will be in the euro. You may think it a comical assertion today but there are vays of making you join once you need the bailout and you vill need the bailout. The books just don't and never vill balance.
So in five years time when southern Europe has dragged the German and French economies down to the their level, and used up all of the money, where
exactly would the bailout come from? Britain joining the Euro at that point would be akin to running into a burning building, grabbing the remote, and dying of smoke inhalation just as your favourite programme starts.
Now don't get me wrong, the Euro imploding will have enormous consequences for Sterling and any other currency in the vicinity. Not being part of it at the time will make things a bit easier though. There are plenty of savings we must make at home, abroad, militarily and politically. None of them will be popular, but each of them would be much easier without being part of the EU.
The EU has proved itself to be overambitious, inept, incompetent, ineffective, inefficient, unchecked and corrupt. Sometimes it is all of those. The idea that the ragbag assortment of European cultures and economies could ever merge into one massive, coherent federal state was clearly never going to work. Any organisation, let alone one that is pretending to be a government, that cannot audit its accounts for 12 years in a row should have been exterminated years ago.
And no, I'm not going to vote UKIP. They are a one trick pony, that only has a place in British politics until the European question has been resolved. Whatever that resolution turns out to be. Otherwise, they are just playing the fantasy politics that plagues the Liberals; they know they're unelectable, so can make all sorts of promises that won't need to be honoured.
Finally going back to this post's title, the Yanks clearly have no understanding of our position in Europe. We're the troublemakers that everyone else wishes would stand in the naughty corner and keep quiet.
