Qualifying is one fast lap, the race is many laps, so there are many parameters like tyre conservation etc.

Interesting Vettel and Button strategy today, looking forward to see how it pans out?

It is beginning to look like Hamilton have made a good move by switching to Mercedes. I think Mclaren need to have a major shake up as with their resources they are consistently under achieving, not only on outright speed but also race tactics.

Get rid of Sam Michaels, look how Williams went down the pan when he joined and recovered after he left QED :y

I hope Hamilton wins it,but I dont think it will be easy. The three best drivers in F1 imo are in the first 3 places on the grid, plus the crafty tyre strategy on Vettel and Buttons cars may give them a real advantage by mid race distance. It should be interesting.

So what tactic made him and RB decide to not set a time?  :-\

Conserving tyres for the race due to high degradation, plus the RB's could not match pace, they have start race with same tyres. Jenson went tactical and went into Q3's on medium tyres to be in a better position for the race.

Hamilton did well, his critics I note are not responding here  ::)

Mercs hurt tyres though, he will really struggle to convert it to a win. I think ice man Kimi will get this, assuming no mistakes.
Button used the hard tyres in Q3, same as Vettel.
Apologies, Tunnie, you are correct. Both on medium tyres. :y

Good enjoyable race, Alonso, didn't predict that one, and Kimi with a damaged front wing, exciting finish glad it was Hamilton and not Vettel :y

Good race, good result.

WTF with Webber?

Some of the pit stops were so fast you would wonder if they can be any quicker with humans involved.

It was interesting to watch, but the bigger picture for me is that the tyre issue (among other things) is ruining proper racing.Different strategies, drivers asking their engineer if they should or shouldnt race the car catching them or in front of them etc.
No way of actually knowing how the race might pan out until the last couple of laps, despite drivers obviously driving brilliantly, because their tyres were the over riding factor at all times. We have no way of guessing who would have finished where today if the tyre issue was taken out of the equation. As webber said yesterday "its becoming like WWF F1".
Send them out to the start on tyres which can reasonably be expected to last the whole race, and may the best man win. :)

As for the mickey mouse flap DRS - dont even get me started. ::)

Agreed. I am guessing that even with DRS , Lewis didn't have the tyres under him to have a go at Raikonnen near the end. Then when Vettel was catching Lewis he had to really push and thus locked up coming into the last corner. The "have to use 2 types of tyres" as a concept worked for a while but has now become a bit dangerous. Maybe the answer is one type of tyre which can last for more than half a race ensuring at least one pit stop.?

PS were you really up at 5 a.m.?! or do you just use software to post that early
