Not being funny, Mr emd, but OOF is really not the best place to seek advice on stuff like this. Amateur doctors will give you advice by the bucket load, but you really should be talking to your GP.

Yes , im going docs int the morning , just thought i'd ask as someone might have had similar symptoms  :y I await Dr Cem  ;D

 ;D ;D

as a rule of thumb, a diabetic  anyway has a torn and worn endocrynal system.. eating large portions of red meat and then an extra load on the liver to correct the problem is not a good idea imo :-\

however, in diabetes cholesterol is a minor problem compared to diabet caused consequences Emd.. whatever you eat your body cant fully utilize it..  so I'll recommend some extra vitamine usage (not everyday) but dosage really depends on your condition (your blood chemistry) .. so really talk to your GP..

I've been on Statins for around 10 years, as a precautionary measure i was told.
Doc at the same time put me on a 1/4 asprin, but that was taken away about 5 years ago, as the medical profession followed new research on them.
I'm not aware of ever having high cholesterol, and am pretty sure it was never over 8.

I am now starting to have muscular problems in my left left, and I'm hoping its a side effect of being on statins for a long time.
I've been type 1 for nearly 40 years so it could be accelerated wear and tear.

I've got a review with Diabetic team on Monday next week, so will bring it up with them.
I'm hoping they'll let me drop the statin for a while and see what happens!

Bizarre this thread turned up today. Last night was discussing statins with pub landlord. He drinks 14 pints of mild a day and was called to take part in some clinical test for cholesterol  - when he told them how much he drank they said no point in doing test. Anyhow he pointed out travel time and costs so they agreed to do it and result was 3.7. So we know how to keep it low then??
Can't see how beer would affect it really. I mean, it's fat, innit?

Because alcohol dissolves fat, which also includes your brain as that is largely fat according to a top doctor I was talking to over a pint, which was his excuse for only the one, to keep his brain sharp.

good point Rods.. and while dissolving cholesterol molecules (solving one problem) you are running towards cirrhose (creating a bigger problem) at  race car speed.. ;D and I dont count other side effects on blood system and other organs :(

http://www.foods-that-heal.com/foods-that-lower-cholesterol.html

ps: also I forgot to say cholesterol is necessary for human body for repairs..

I have diabetes and high blood pressure (fat bastard, you see!) and have been on statins for some time. Initially they were Simvaststin, but after reading about joint problems caused by that type, my consultant changed me to Atorvastatin a few years back and I've been fine since.
Statins are helpful in ways other than cholesterol, too, so please discuss all of the other benefits with your GP and consider carefully before you turn them down.
With the financial constraints on the health service these days, they would not be offered to you if they did not have real benefits to you.

any drug or food or solution whatever, destroying cholesterol will likely start problems on joints.. if not , its not that effective ;D

My practice changed me from Simvastatin to Atorvastatin as the former was deemed to have more side effects.
This was not a good move as i ended up with chronic leg and joint pains, it was agony going up and down stairs etc.
Have now stopped all statins, legs now fine and have changed to lower fat diet. Just got to wait for next cholesterol check
to see how things are going. If anyone can get by without them best that they do.

Firstly i have been on blood pressure tablets for 4 years . Not because of being vastly overweight . I was given the statins as i was told there was a high cholesterol reading and was told that being diabetic increased me getting a high cholesterol reading .
Im on various tablets for pain control for other problems .
Ive been in pain with my feet and other lower limbs since taking the statins so something is wrong  :(
Ive booked in to Dr Cem on wednesday  :D

dont take it personal but thats not a measure D.. there are very good doctors graduated from ordinary schools and there are bad doctors graduated from famous schools..  its the ones self interest and ability that determines the result.. imo..

just to give an example , I know a patient regularly visiting a famous doctor who also has extra degrees in abroad universities.. but that doesnt stop him prescribing a strong drug (hormone repressive) for years causing osteoporosis without prescribing the necessary zometa.. :-\ you should have seen your face when I reminded that.. of course I had to read many pages before I discover that..
