The capitalist system is what most are contracted into from birth, trading in our, in the beliefs of John Locke, God given freedoms to gain benefits of state security and social care.
It is possible to opt out of the capitalist system if we so wish, living off the land, using no centrally generated utility services, no social support services, including education, and defending our own, using just the resources available to us maybe in the wilds of America, Canada, China, etc, giving our labour only to our own requirements.
However, for our comfort, satisfaction and survival most of us decide to remain 'opted in' to the capitalist society we are attached to and enjoy all the 'toys' that produces, with all its faults. Perhaps we are not brave enough to opt out, or we care too much for our families, lacking confidence in our own abilities. But that is the freedom we do enjoy in the capitalist system of ours; freedom of choice. Other systems, such as collective communism does not give you that as they usually are within an authoritarian state. The Russians have now tasted the 'honey' of capitalism and will not be opting out any time soon. The Chinese are still learning and will eventually join the club!
What angers me though is the type of situation that is the basis of this thread. People should either
WORK and CONTRIBUTE to the capitalist system, freely agreeing to honour their contracted in situation, thus gaining the advantages of it OR opt out fully and NOT derive ANY benifit from what the capitalist society generates.
It should be one or the other! Stay opted in, contribute fully, and gain the benefit. Opt out, live for yourselves only and only benefit from your own labours, no one elses.
Simples!!
