..and that is a major worry, Zulu. In practical terms all commodities have an intrinsic value, which means that when an overinflated value falls, there is a  cushion, at which the natural demand for a commodity prevents further fall. In this unique case, trading the right to emit CO2 has NO intrinisic value whatsoever. When all the major financial institutions pile into it, there will be a bubble - and that bubble will, sooner or later, burst. Because the right to emit CO2 has no value (it is, after all literally hot air), there will be no floor to cushion the blow and, quite possibly, trillions could be lost overnight. It would make the credit crunch look like a tea party.  :( :(

I'm particurlarly concerned that this very obvious failing has indeed been recognised and the view will be that the lesser of many evils is to encorouge, or at least not impede, trading in these commodities.

Once again size matters ::) ::)

I think I have a few Daily Mash converts today. :)
I dont know how you people can seriously doubt climate change.If it was untrue it would mean that very many rich/powerful/influential people around the world had told lots of lies.Doesnt really bear scrutiny now does it ?

 :D

yep - i believe all those poor/weak/downtrodden oil companies  8-) ::) ;)

That old chestnut! No, Bannjaax, you'll need to move on!

These days, the biggest companies (like GE) are pushing for legislation, because that's where the money is. Science? Forget it!

http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/politics/How-GE-puts-the-government-to-work-for-GE-8154266-54820577.html

being environmentally aware, and scamming taxpayers out of money on some green loophole are not the same thing - anyway we're screwed either way, price of oil goes through the roof as it dries up driving the price of every thing else

the environment? who cares? i don't - and if i did (which i don't) it's either too late to change or there's no problem, either way it's pointless worrying - the oil wars of the next 2 decades will put an end to worrying over trivial matters - tbh when the virus that is humans finally dies out - i'm sure earth couldn't go on without us........oh, wait a second.....sorry, make that thrive without us  :y

I don't see humanity as a virus. I guess that is why we rarely see eye-to-eye, Bannjaax.  :(

we see eye-to-eye a lot more than you think nick  :y

we both agree nothing should be done about climate change for example - waste of money, if you ask me  ;)
