It only seems that the UK is taking this seriously. If you go to the US for example, all office lights and computers are left on all day and night, you get big trucks releasing pollution into the atmosphere with no care. (It's not much different here). On the scale of things, the collosal effort that the UK makes just seems to be marignal.
you're right - go to the US and you see that no matter what we do - we're screwed - the US couldn't give a monkeys about the environment - outside of a few hippies in LaLa Land

Energy-related carbon dioxide emissions in the US declined by 2.8 percent in 2008 while the UK's carbon dioxide emissions fell by 1.5 per cent in 2007 (latest data available). China, meanwhile, is expected to overtake the US as the largest emitter this year and, according to the 2050 China Energy and CO2 Emissions Report released by the NDRC, an increase in carbon emissions will be recorded every year from now on to 2030.
Still, that won't you stop you hating the US, will it?
