I think theres 2 temp senors.......one the ecu uses and one for the dash gauge.

You will need to ask someone brainy to confirm this.

If there are it seems to me as the cooling fan is in turbo mode when the gauge says 95 then they both seem to agree on the same temp.

So your theory about some crud still in there could be one to investigate.

In this weather I can leave my 2.2 idling (which it does a lot) temp drifts up from normal temp of 85 to just over 90 then fan cuts in slow mode and brings it back down 85 again.

I assume the rad matrix is fairly unblocked......ie no crud inbetween the vanes? Compressed air line is pretty good at blowing crud out.
