well i've got a garmin portable and haven't had a problem in a city, yes in the tauern tunnel (13k) you lose signal but that's to be expected i would rather have one of them than try and navigate by map whilst driving, my mazda has a nav tec in it and although old it still gets me there.

i have germany cd with major roads of europe 2001 edition also on it and it took me wherever i wanted to go, flawless unlike the garmin nuvi 350 wich had no tmc and i got stuck for 1 hour in a trafic jam. in my opinion dash navi is way better than any after market one not to mention all the wires sticking out on your dash.

Sadly, TMC doesn't work on NCDC here in the UK, because the scumbags who run TMC here are money grabbing gits.

In UK, if you have 2004 or later map, you have the menus for TMC, but in the UK, TMC is transmitted encrypted, and the decryption algorthym is supposed to be in the software.  As GM never paid to use TMC to the UK company who runs TMC here, that decryption software is NOT on any map disks (as this is only applicable to UK - other TMC countries transmit it unencrypted).
