Timing tool set, Laser any good?
« on: 03 March 2012, 18:49:35 »

Been offered a Laser set for V6 cambelt jobbie, is this set any good or am I wasting my money? How much I should pay for a second hand (in good condition, used twice) set?

There was a problem with the accuracy of some laser V6 kits,so personally I would avoid them.
I would expect to pay £50 or maybe a little more for a good second hand kit.

i have two sets, one sykes pckavant, the other laser.

on comparing both in profile and fit of the cam locks there was nothing in it.

the butterfly however there was a marked difference as the laser was a clean cut lineup notch compared with gas axed mark on the sykes. (this may have been a seconds item thou, i dont know)

Used a couple of laser kits, not had an issue.

From what I've read the problem appeared to relate to a bad batch since recalled. Or something like. If its been used without issue, I wouldn't worry about using it tbh.

I recently paid £55 for a sykes pickavent kit, hardly used, in its box with manual and sleeve.

Went for this make, following advise from the forum.  :y

Some S+P come complete with Torx socket and 30(?)mm spanner, saves sourcing those items if you don't have them.

If you're following the video on here then this I believe is the one you need.....

Thanks for comments. Will see what is the lowest price I can buy it. TX sockets and 30mm spanner I already have and really I do no tneed the kit, three more years to next cambelt change and I'm not convinced I will have the Omega then anymore... But then again, what would I drive? An Omega of course   :D
