looking at changing the rear springs on my 2002 v6 saloon after one broke on the speed humps at work .Have looked at the maintenance guide and looks pretty straight forward to do . There is no mention of spring compressors when replacing,can this be achieved without the use of them .

Quickest way is to drop the diff, by the time you've jacked it up & taken off the wheels, you might as well drop the diff

Nope, when dropping the diff make sure the handbrake is off!

When lowered enough, the springs will just fall out!

job done took me 2 1/2 hours .copper slipped all bolts & greased all brake pipe joints.
Well pleased as its my first ever spring change

Nice one, its a really good satisfying job. Saw it done few times, only did it on my own last year.

Copper slipping all bolts and stuff, makes it so much easier next time around.

and yes, given pot hot ridden roads, its a good skill to have and be much easier next time
