Retro-fit cruise control....
« on: 19 March 2012, 21:35:08 »

As I am doing a heap of other stuff, I thought it would be a great idea to fit cruise to my 3.0 facelift.
I have looked but I can't see anything that tells me what I need, apart from the stalk, control box and cable....
I'm sure there's a switch on the brake or clutch plus a fuse?????????
Anybody done this??? Is it plug and play or, Do I need a software update???
Any help would be great.....  :y

Sorry if this is a silly question bearing in mind it's a fl, but does it have a throttle cable or is it DBW?

It's not whether it's facelift or not .......... 2.5 & 3.0 have throttle cables, 2.6 & 3.2 are both drive by wire  ;) ;) ;)

I'm sure I'll be corrected if need be, but if your car is auto then I think you'll need to swap your two pin brake switch for a four pin switch. Just plug & play with no software update needed.  :y  :y
If you have an extra pedal, you'll need the appropiate switch on that too.  ;)

Thanks guys, that's all good to know..
It is indeed a 3.0 manual (with a cable throttle)
I've not looked yet but does the loom/harness support the 4 pin switch? Is it an extra switch? Or, Does it replace to 2 pin??? And as I think Andy B is saying, there is another switch on the clutch pedal????

Spot on, if manual then you need to get a clutch switch too, the connecter is tucked up behind the fuse panel, mine was cable-tied up there. Real easy addition and so worth it.
I changed the 2pin brake switch for a 4pin switch and got a clutch switch from a dealer for £30 IIRC. that was 2 years ago though...

Yep, as mine was exactly. you'll need to buy a 4pin brake switch and a clutch switch.

30seconds to fit, make sure you test the brake lights after you fit the brake switch, you'll see when you buy one that there is a ridged area with a slide-on locking piece of plastic that can be adjusted. I drove with brake lights on for a day and CC wouldn't work due to not adjusting this first!

Thanks for the heads up, is there a procedure for setting the switch?

Yer there is.

Fit switch, turn ignition on and see if brake lights are on. If not = Good.
If on without your foot on the pedal, slide out plastic locking piece and reinsert to the next ridge up.

It's easier than it sounds, the second omega I retro'd CC to was fine, new switch in and no adjustment needed.
