What a week it's been:

*According to Allister Heath over at City AM, five million people will soon be paying 40p tax. This top rate now kicks on earning of over £41,450 - which is pretty close to the £37,000 average full-time male earnings.

Add in National Insurance, and when that army of folk trying to do the right thing goes out to work each morning, they do so knowing that for every £1 they earn, 42p goes straight to the government.

*The government and the Office of Budget Responsibility  tell us that real public spending rose by 1.5% in 2010, by  0,3% in 2011 and is forecast to rise by another 0.5% this year. Of course there are individual cuts, to help pay for the increases in health, overseas aid, EU spending and the other growing areas. It is however importtant to understand that there has been and still is a rise in overall current spending, not just in cash terms but also after allowing for inflation.

Add to that the pensioners being hit, the vindictive rise in tobacco tax and, this morning, plans for a minimum price on alcohol and Cameron has just about ensured that the Tories will bomb at the next election. With Labour just as bad at spending and nannying, there is no hope.

I simply refuse to vote Conservative whilst Cameron, Clegg and Osborne are in charge. I refuse to vote Labour, since they are in the pay of the leftie union moguls...and they're socialist anyway.

Thank goodness we have UKIP. OK, they may not form a government anytime soon, but it is good to at least have a party to whom I can lend my vote without the guilt of knowing that I am responsible for keeping any of the current mob in Westminster.

It doesn't take a lot of working out what British people want. Any party that realises that must stand a decent chance of gaining power.
Where will my vote go next? Yep, probably UKIP too.

Good point, but the electorate, most of whom usually vote labour "by default" as they see labour as the working man's party, believe the utter utter lies and socialist scaremongering spin they come out with. That Ed Balls is a horrible horrible man, a snake, a weasel, not to be trusted. If he had any intelligence he'd be dangerous. It's incomprehensible that he can believe his own words. As for his behaviour yesterday, he should be expelled for that language and tone in the United Kingdom's Houses of Parliament. Vote UKIP!

The country is basicly bankrupt.
They is no money.
We have very little gold reserves to fall back on because of gordon brown cashing most of it in to buy rather euro's 

Everybody is getting shafted one way or the other and it will be that way for imo the next 5 years 

Best we get used to it because all the budget does is take our taxes from one place and move it to another to try and keep people sweet.

Imho, you can blub as much as you want but if the people / banks who do have real money break off and take there wealth with them, we will end up in a depresion and then we will realy have something to cry about.

Now in a 3 or 4 years time, then it will be time to really kick off but tbh, I think the average brit will just do what he has always done .............. gob off a little then just sit back to moan and groan about its not fair

Me, too. Average wage is about £22,000........with many people earning far less. However, on planet London wages are generally far higher.

It's all shit. Not just here, but every countries govt to varying degrees, are all battling very similar financial parameters.

As for the minimum wage. Of course it has to go up each year. By definition it is the minimum wage that an employer has to pay. Inflation keeps going up. If we had deflation then maybe the min wage could go down. Not much chance of deflation. Without a minimum the "mill owners" would just pay less and less.

Better to focus on the welfare state. Now that is where real savings can be made.

London is way above average, I'm in the 40% bracket the money grabbing gits! I know a lot of contractors my age, doing java/php/streaming on far more. Senior PHP dev can easily get £450 day, few people I work with are on £550+ day

That beats the 50 euros(about £42) a day cash in hand that South Americans get working an eight hour day here picking olives. Spaniards command a massive 60 euros a day for the same hard work.

Big government - yes.

The point is that, despite all their rhetoric, this administration is set to INCREASE public spending, when it should be decreased. You can't spend your way out of debt.

The big problem is the spending tap was turned on by John Major to try and win another Tory term and then in Labour's second term the Fool Brown, really let rip.

Unfortunately, ALL Labour administrations have left the country destitute, with IMF bailout required in 1970's!

Now with Labour and the unions there is a positive feedback loop. Increase public spending and the number working in the public sector, means where it is heavily unionized there are more members and their subscriptions, which means more money is given to Labour, which increases through advertising etc., their chances of reelection.

The UK are one or two Labour Governments from being Greece!

I'm not a fan of the Condems, but unfortunately in a recession / depression, you have to scale back public spending slowly or you end up in a Greek, Portuguese, Irish economic death spiral. So, the Government's hands are tied here to a degree.

IMHO Cameron, Clegg, Cable, Osborne etc., are just morally corrupt, self serving, spin merchants in it for their own gain. Only us serfs are "all in it together". The best the Tories have got is probably, Redwood but he is far too clever and logical to ever be a minister this retards Government!

Indeed. The most important thing the current government can do to set this country on the road to recovery is to make sure they don't hand the next election to Labour. A decent fiscal policy would have been a bonus, of course, but they'd be hard pressed to come up with anything worse than another Labour term.
