I should, for those considering new tyres, point out that I don't believe Mr chrisgixer is in any way endorsing the use of Falkens on Omegas....    ....so if members are in the market for new tyres, walk on past the Falkens ;D

I also happen to know that these Falkens cost a lot of money :o :o

They didn't come free with some "Buy fake Rolex here" wheels, did they? :-X

;D ok, enough teasing.

They where on wheels that I wanted off another car. Didn't know what tyres it had prior to viewing the vehicle, just wanted the wheels off it. Plus potentially some other goodies.

You can imagine my reaction when I saw what tyres it had fitted. FFS!

Anyway I've fitted them to mine to make sure the wheels are round and there's no issues prior to refurbing. But this means enduring appalling tram lining. I didn't tell Mrs CG. But even she noticed the car moving around badly from the passenger seat.
"what's wrong with the car" she said.
To be fair the Falkens are worn obviously. About half way down on 3, 1 is about 2 mill off the wear bars. There is some odd wear on the outside edge of one from the previous car which has also got failed bushes all round, naturally.

What are they like on my car? Exceptional.

Exceptionally quiet.
Exceptionally comfy ride.

....and EXCEPTIONALLY BAD for tramlining. Appalling.

Although not as bad as the 912's I had with Elite suspension. These do at least hold a line if the surface is good with little correction needed.
Grip level is poor compared to sc3, which are also louder, with firmer ride.

Should add, they had stood for a while as the car had little use, tread blocks had lipped edges from previous car set up. So where loud initially, with a buzz on the brakes. This has decreased considerably with use.

They are still dangerous on bumpy B roads though IMO. Lordy. Crossing tram lined worn Tarmac turning left, means turning the wheel to almost two o'clock in the opposite direction to keep the car on line. Almost 90degree correction on the steering wheel. Incredible.

Had 235/35/19's 452's fitted new when I had the work done in 2009. :y 8)
As I've mentioned before, nice and quiet and grippy. :)

You do, as Mr Gixer says, have to fight to stay in a straight line. :o My Mig liked to go left at an ever increasing velocity. Not nice.....
This gets worse as you drive 'em more and I had several near misses on the A12 into the Blackwall Tunnel (and the last 3 miles is like driving on the moon - crater after crater). :-\ :( >:( :o

Not no how.
Not no way.

ever again.

.............and I don't suppose the newer 453 is any different...................

They have a new model? Now if they could keep the quietness and ride quality but make them go straight as well...NO NO nevermind.

There are many qualitys to consider in a tyre, but surely going straight isn't too hard for tyre designers to sort out....?

As I said I don't see what they changed on the Omega. My LC and Gsi Carlton don't suffer from any stability issues. I have a Alhambra with them fitted to. My Dad's old trooper had Falkens. No issues what so ever. So it's just trying to work out why the Omega is sensitive to these.

Excessively soft side walls. Paper thin, having seen them off the wheel.
Tram lining is said to be caused by too firm a side wall. True enough. However at the other end of the scale, these seem so soft as to behave like a flat tyre.

Don't bother trying to work it out. Simple answer, don't fit them to this car.

....I do find it infuriating. Not simply because they tram line so badly, but because they have other very favourable characteristics that I miss. Quiet and comfy ride. The car is almost silent to drive with barely any road noise. Suspension feels so refined. They are cheap too.

No grip and don't last though. :(
