You need class C1 on your licence to drive a vehicle between 3.5t and 7.5t. This came as standard on a car licence until 1997. Later drivers won't have it by default.

As said, no to 7.5T. This is your limit
Motor vehicles with a MAM of up to 3,500 kg, no more than eight passenger seats, with or without a trailer - weighing no more than 750kg, if fitted with a trailer weighing more than 750 kg, the total weight of the vehicle and the trailer together can’t weigh more than 3,500 kg. The weight of the trailer, when fully loaded, can’t weigh more than the unladen weight of the vehicle

...., the total weight of the vehicle and the trailer together can’t weigh more than 3,500 kg.  .....

the rediculous thing about this legislation is that it's not the actual weight, but the weight it could be eg you'll be over the limit of 3.5t if you towed an empty car trailer that has a MPTML (max gross weight) of 2t behind your 2 tonne car. That's like saying, I'm booking you for speeding because as your car will do 150mph you MIGHT speed!  >:( >:(

The problem is, we're dealing with regulations dreamt up by drones in suits who sit at desks. They have no connection with the real world, sadly. ::)
