Having tried several times to clear my breather system (there's obviously a knack to this - and I evidently ain't got it!), and got fed up with forever blowing rocker box gaskets, I decided to revert to basics.

In The Olden Days crankcase pressure was simply dumped to atmosphere but, as time went by (and people got fed up with drips on their driveway), the system we have today of feeding it back into the engine was developed. So, I thought, what exactly is this trying to achieve? Answer: to relieve crankcase pressure without dripping oil condensate. Here's what I've done.

I took the dipstick out and stowed it. I then pushed one end of a length of tube into the top of the dipstick hole and the other into the air inlet. The pressure is relieved and the oil mist (and smell) gets sucked back into the engine.

Result! No more crankcase pressure build up, no more leaks, no oil drips. If and when my drain tube gets bunged up (which I doubt will happen anyway) I simply throw it away and replace it.

The crankcase breather system, when working as designed, actually draws air through the crankcase to purge it of nasty fumes. Your modification might well prevent this, especially if the rest of the breather system is neglected, so the oil will get contaminated quicker, causing more debris in the breathers and so on.

If the breathers were thoroughly unblocked but continue to block regularly, I would say you need to do a couple of quick oil changes at 1000 mile intervals (say) to flush out any crud in the engine that might be a symptom of previous neglect. Then keep oil changes regular and the system will work as intended without any modifications.

It's very easy to forget the vacume side of the breathers function. Seen a few bodges over the years, non take that vital part of the equation into account.

Kev gave a good tip a while ago. Remove the pipes connecting the plenum to crank case and blow down them one by one to see if they are blocked.
 Rest is as the guide. :)

Is that all 4 pipes at back of plenum cover.
