« on: 03 April 2012, 21:51:37 »

hi all just to let you know my omega had died , i had coolent leak for a while ,didnt let it get to hot ,but i have spent quite alot trying to bring it back to 100% looks the dogs but other day i changed the value at back of engine ,tho i had fixed the proplem leak slowed down ,had mayo on oil cap been there for awhile thought it was cause may need oil change and needed good run , yesterday started her up to a bad tapping noise but after a few mins noise stopped ?? was told sus head gasket , im really gutted as this was a demo omega from vauhall 3.0 with every gadget known to man full spec .
today i started her up still a  bad  tapping sound but dose go when temp reached, so to heal the pain i have just brought a omega the 2.0 cd. cloth seats nowhere near the spec of this ,do i change all the interior ? will the 2.0 drop in the elite , im so gutted dont know weather to put it on ebay with a 99p start and let them fight over it.
ive taken the 17in wheels of and put standerds back on , miss the ride but still keeping the omega faith , if anyone out there wants to give me a serious bid im up for it thanks for all the advice on the old girl since ive had her , look forward to more probs with this lol    REE,

Sounds to me like you want it back on the road, and you wouldn't be happy with a two litre in it. There are quite a few "known" 3 litre engines around.  ::)

the money you spent on 2litre would probably have done your head gaskets

More likely sticking hydraulic tappet(s)/lifter(s) - usually cured by couple of quick oil changes and wynns lifter treatment in bad cases.  Assumed leakage issues fixed.

Suggest you get someone with knowledge of these motors to have a look (PM Serek, he's based not far from you in Huntingdon) ;)

Or maybe exhaust manifold?

Yep could be - either way best to get an expert opinion.

You might be able to resuscitate the elite with a bit of help by the sound of it  :y

I fail to see how an intermittent tapping can be the result of a head gasket failure.

Are you getting oil contamination of the coolant?

Coolant leak might be head gasket, but plenty of more likely causes to eliminate first.

I'd say you need to take this to someone who can diagnose the problems in a logical way instead of clutch at straws. ;)

I reckon one of the mobile mechanics on here could get it back up to scratch in a weekend.
