ECU question

OK, my 2000 2.5 TD engine ECU is fried, when I get a replacement, is it just "plug & play?" OR do I need the transponder & key chips? I just need a definitive answer before I look for stuff I may not need.  :-\

think you need a tec 2 to sync with alarm and imobliser and key fob.

You need immobiliser and key chips.

How was it fried as they are pretty bullet proof!

Hmmm, not looking as easy as I was first told then. Any Tech 2s in my area? The ECU was fried by a loose live wire.

Long shot I know but are they any internal fuses in the ecu case ?

Yeh, is there not a guide (as pr chipping the 2.5).

Simply put, two boards but not seen any fuses.

Yes, I have seen the guide, but no fuses. I thought there may have been a simple anti-surge fuse at least.  :-\

There may be some zero ohm fuseable resistors on board....check the tracks also!

Pull the cover off and have a look at the front and back of the circuit board.
The tracks are the metal strips that conect the various components together.
What your looking for is any sign of burning, different colours on the board or signs of over heating  :y

Thanks Tigers, I will have a go at it as soon as I get chance. I think I am sorter with a replacement now, just hope it gets here  soon with the Bank Holiday etc.

Latest - I now have a replacement ECU, plus transponder, and key chip, all fitted. Tried sync-ing the lot together by locking/unlocking in pos 2. EML still flashing, engine will not start (actually it will but won't run for more than half a second). What am I missing? Does this need a Tech 2 after all?

Experts will no doubt be able to answer you better, but the 're-sync' just syncronises the fob back to the central locking after battery removal etc. It sounds to me as though the imobiliser isn't reading the chip  :-\ :-\ :-\

Right, yes I agree. The connections are all fine, and the chip is fitted (even tried it taped to the immobiliser/transponder). I just don't know what to look at next.
