My 3.0 has started making a noise from cold start. My last 3.0 Omega started making a noise at a similar mileage (81k) which turned out to be the exhaust manifold & went after a few minutes.
This noise is different, with the bonnet up seems to be coming from the area in the vicinity of the EGR. It sounds, well, more tappety. It stops when the engine has warmed up and from inside the car sounds like a ticking noise which gets quieter over the first couple of miles of a journey.
The car has had frequent oil changes in my ownership, the most recent being about a month ago with Vx oil. At the last oil change, October, I added some Wynns lifter treatment as there was a little lifter noise for the first few seconds on a cold start when it hadn't been used for a few days. The car is now used every day and is probably getting more regular use now than at any other time in its life, as it's at least 10 miles in any direction on open roads to anything useful for us here.
The car was neglected by the previous owner, so the first thing I did on buying it 2 years ago was the breathers, sump pan off for cleaning (YUCK) and then frequent oil changes.
Hope the backgound helps, any ideas?
Thanks - Rob
