Service and cam belt
« on: 02 April 2008, 21:25:30 »

Was going to do a full service and cam belt change until someone recommended a chap to me. He used to be a plod mechanic and he's just quoted me £60+kit to do cam belt or £90+parts for full service! He doesn't mark up his parts prices either or i can supply my own!

I'm looking at it like this... I've got to either buy or hire a locking kit (he does have one!) and i'll probably only need to do it twice, perhaps 3 times in my ownership. Then set aside the time to do it and then get my hands dirty, which i'm not sacred of, whereas he can do it whilst i'm at work!

I'm not concerned about doing it, as i used to make a living on the spanners, but am seriously thinking at that price i might as well get him to do it for me!

What do you guys think?

I'd shake hands at £60  :y Only use genuine Vx kit.

If service inc all filters, plugs etc I'd let him do that too .....if it's just an oil change I'd do it myself, unless he can stamp your service book, then for £30 I'd let him do that too  ;)

The £30 extra is labour to do full service, so yes... All the filters, plugs etc. Don't think it's worth me getting dirty! It'll be a gates kit instead of a vauxhall branded gates kit! They've never let me down over the years so i'm happy with that. I'll post up his overall price when i get it.

I'll ask him if he's interested but i doubt it!

When you can find someone that cheap there's no point in getting dirty! Might get him to do the wife's car too!
