Thank you BT
« on: 15 April 2012, 09:32:40 »

BT will roughly double the speed of your infinity..if you renew your contract....or you get the new faster speeds automatically when signing up now.  No extra cost, just faster speeds...not that they are 'really' needed :)

Details here :

http://www.btlife.bt.com/technology-and-communication/were-making-bt-infinity-even-faster-at-no-extra-cost/

basically login to bt online and follow the infinity speed increase links

Yeah, announced a couple of weeks back. Up to 76Mb from 38Mb (or in BT speak, 80Mb from 40Mb ::)). Upload doubled as well.  All dependent on what the line can handle, of course.

I'm with BT, but Infinity is a bloody pipedream here  :(

Been "promised" for 2 years, yet still not available >:(

I'm roughly 10 miles in between Worcester & Birmingham, how the hell can it still be "unavailable" to people in this day and age is beyond me >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

No wonder this country is going backwards, no sodding investment, unless your in London...... Rant over, sorry :-[

I think BT are doing a great job rolling it out, when you consider the logistics of the rollout. BT's Management are shrewd enough to hit the areas where they can make the investment back.

Although, for browsing, you don't need much bandwidth.  For over 5 years, I served all you lot on an 276kbps upstream line, including up to 348 simultaneous users ;) - that's on top of other sites hosted here, and my other personal uses.  Don't remember many complaints about speed that were due to the broadband bandwidth ;)

I have had infinity for a while now. To be honest, the only difference I notice is download speeds, which are super fast.....but that depends whether the site has download limits.
I did say to the engineer who installed it..' Why has this small village exchange got infinity, yet big cities and towns don't look like getting it for ages'.....and his reply was 'The boss lives here' :)
How true this is I don't know....my exchange is Penn.

Penn Exchange actually covers a fair area, including parts of Wycombe - I imagine it was financially viable ;)

Looking at the state of our exchange, they need to invest in some felt for the roof before they make the broadband any faster.  :o

BT ?!?  ;D   They don't know their @r$e from their elbow !!!

After a week of every evening from 7pm until calls transfered to India (or wherever) at 10pm, trying to sort out internet at home I was offered 256k at best. :o
They kept saying my line was tied to another provider, or was 'tagged'. (This was a brand new line they'd installed a week earlier. ???)

By chance I found a scrap of paper left behind by the 'Open Reach' techie who'd installed the line so I called the number and got through to a techie who, although rather surprised to have a member of the public come through on that number, was very helpfull and after running some tests called me back and advised I should get 6Mbps easily. He suggested I choose any provider and he'd sort out any unacceptable speed issues afterwards.

I signed up to Tiscali (inc. line rental) and got 6.9Mbps straight away. When I re-signed they sent me a wireless modem and since then I've been getting around 16Mbps. I've had no issues with service or connection.

'Open Reach' techie :y

Tiscali :y

Oh, no. The kit inside it is clearly adequate. Getting 15Mb/s ADSL2+, but I wonder how well it'll be working when it's standing exposed in a field because the building around it has crumbled away. ;)
