There's a circular clip that lives INSIDE the socket which doe the actual holding on of the cable on the ball of the accelerator linkage. It's this clip that tends to sieze up preventing it from coming off the ball.
If it's any consolation, I've seen Mark give up in the past & just move the whole lot out the way ..............  :y :y :y :y

Stick a bit of grease in the cup before assembly ............. assuming you ever get it off  ;D ;D

I have seen the clip inside and I did try to move it a little but no go....

Have you popped some spray grease in just to try to help? :y

If you can get in (it's been years since I had a non-DBW) with a flat screwdriver on each side of the ball, that'll work better than just one side :y

No spray grease but I did throw in a load of WD and tried the double screwdriver trick but it's solid! I'm actually damaging the end of the cable... Having said that, it wasn't great to strat with...

I GOT IT OFF!!!! Just for referance, I pushed the small ring back into the socket and it poped off... Now I can test the Cruise on the way home tonight... :)
