Slightly Mad Studios are the developer behind Shift 1 and 2 in the Need For Speed Series.

They have decided to develope their own Racing "Sim" without a publisher and have asked us, the public to join them.

You can download the various builds, weekly if you want depending on the level of "help" you wish to provide, PLUS you get your money back
once the game is released by way of a discount of what you put in.

You get daily updates from programmers and through the forum can voice concerns, questions and requests, directly to them.

They are REALLY going anal on this one, this week one chap spend the entire day working on a section of kerb !

They have just released Build 197 and it's pretty darn brillient...PC only now although final release will be on consoles also.

So far they have several different cars and tracks, Bathurst of which is the best version I've ever seen...photorealistic as they call it.

Well worth the money guys...even now...and they reckon the game has still got another year in production.

Good idea.

I always found a small group of gamers we used as beta testers, would not only provide good feedback on bugs and enhancements, but once they saw the changes they had suggested made, it would them become partly their game and they would be very protective, on forums if people were being disrespectful. They would also enjoy being able to talk about the game and it's finer points on the web, leading up to its launch. 

External beta testers are very good for being objective with good simple enhancements which is very easy for the development team to miss where they are too close to the game.

I can see this being very good for the success of the game, not only for the improvement from a mass audience, but also from the viral marketing of it, well done to the studio, for doing something a bit different.
