Hi Guys

Thanks for all the kind comments, pass week has been a bit of a blur. Been spending upto six hours a day at the Norfolk & Norwich which for me is a 60mile round trip each day plus six quid a day for the car park, if you can find a space.

The lad is now on the mend and he is down to be plastered today. He had a six hour op last Monday which was meant to be only two hours. He has broken his collar bone which has been plated and screwed together it was that bad.

they also had to plate his right leg just above the knee joint and rebuild his right knee cap as that was completely shattered and looking at the remains of the car you can see why.

it was a driver to driver head on, 120mph combined impact and that side of the car has been shunted right back and his knee took the full impact.

Hoping he is going to be home this weekend but he wont be able to weight bear on his shoulder for at least six weeks and it will be six to eight months before he can start to put any weight on this leg.

Now the fun part starts, as we have all our cars on a multi car policy we only had him down as third party so the insurance may not pay out for recovery and storage charges which are mad. I went to pick up a few personal items from the wreck at the weekend and speaking to the works manager he has told me that the recovery, which was a ten mile round trip will cost me £300.00 plus £20.00 a day in storage fees.

I have a good mind to stay stuff that i haven't that sort of money and give them the log book but at the moment to sure how i stand on that, waiting for the insurance company to came back on that point.

So i'm now back at work and will start working through the PMs so please bear with me and i'll get round to replying in the next few days

Cheers
Andy

Really sorry to hear this, Andy, and I wish him a speedy recovery. At least he's on the mend. Sounds to me like it could have been a lot worse. :(

Ouch! :o :o

Glad to hear he's on the mend now Andy :y

On the recovery side, it may be worth doing a little homework... When I was doing it (admittedly 12 years ago) there was a set pricing structure for all recovery jobs instigated by the Police (which it sounds like this was) and also storage could not be charged if the vehicle was held by the police for investigation (up to the day they release it) which with the seriousness of your lad's injuries it may well have been. Certainly worth checking up on anyway.

They may well do a deal if the insurance company aren't picking up the tab anyway ::) Especially if you ask them to dispose of it ;)

Glad he's on the long road to recovery :y :y

At least he can't get up to any mischief, and if he gets lippy you just put the TV remote out of reach ;D ;D

Pass on my regards to your son Andy. I'm also full of "scaffolding" TBH I don't really notice it now but I did have to have the plate removed from my shoulder as it restricted my range of movement. I spent 3 months 3 times with my ankle in plaster or a boot even a fixater. It's soul destroying it stops you doing even the simplest of things like getting a shower but you can now buy special bags which you can use which have a neoprene seal to stop the water getting in i found them on line some where just type in "limb bag" on goggle. The worst thing in all this will be his mental state. I know it effects  us all differently but I was a very active person up till my wee knock. I found it very difficult to deal with and my mood got very low. Keep a eye on him as it does effect your recovery especially when the rehab starts which I found harder than the accident to deal with. Wishing your lad a speedy recovery.

Good news that he's getting home Andy, will make things a little easier all round. No one likes hospitals - patients or visitors!

Glad to hear he is on the road to recovery.

Re the recovery costs and insurance, it depends where the blame is.  If it is the other driver then their insurer pays, you claim it off them.  If you have legal assistance on your policy, use it and ask for their help in claiming it.  Don't voluntarily pay.  Sound to me it could be written off anyway.
