The Queens visit,
« on: 25 April 2012, 21:12:27 »

Well the Queens visiting our town on friday, what a waste of money, rumour has it at £2.9 million.Never saw so many police and wanabe police in one town at any one time.
Council working weekends, planting flowers shrubs and screening unsitely views. All this just because of one Royal visit, anyone parked on the roadway will be towed, parking spaces will be reserved for VIPS etc, friday market traders are vetted, bomb squad have sealed all manholes and drains etc etc,What a bloodly waste of money, and guess who has to pay for it.

I believe she brings more into UK plc than it costs to run them all.  I'd take it a step further and say the current Monarch actually does a bloody fantastic job.

Those few OOFers that know my ancestry realise its a turn around me saying that ;D

Everyone knows how difficult it is to get the local council to get a simple task done, weeks months if at all,its put down to lack of funds resources etc, suddenly the Queen is invited to open something in the town, and MONEY appears from nowhere.

                                                  Alfie,
PS I do not dislike the monarchy, and like you I know that they bring a lot of tourist money into this country, but that money doe's not pay my council tax.

Technically it does. Partially. Its just local councils are generally so inefficient, you don't really notice

There may be extra costs involved due to overtime, but most of those people will have been working anyway. This figure of 2.9 mill is probably only down to the peculiar way things are costed.

Long live the Queen

She's coming to my town tomorrow as well, flying in by helicopter and visiting my old school, Cyfarthfa Castle. My little 'un's not interested in going to see her though, she could have gone either with the school or with Brownies, and she's going with neither  :-\
