I drove these as taxis when i was still down south, good tough, comfy motors. When they reached M. reg. the bosses started buying 2.0 petrol Migs or as my boss called them "Amigos" hence my handle. I loved them straight away but they cost too much for me to have one of my own then, plus i was still a family man so my own car was a Chevette! Don't laugh that little car never gave up & you adjusted the tappets with the engine running using the rule of 9.....

Don't remeber doing with any running engines, but when no 1 valve fully closed adjust no 8 brings back memories of several engines !!

I must be honest, I preferred the Mk1 and Mk2 more. Also the Consul which was similar to the Mk1.
The auto gearboxes on the Mk3 was dodgy.

I had a mk 3 granny a while back not bad for its day and didn't have a lot go wrong with it. I've noticed a lot of people who drove Grannys and scorpios have progressed to miggy's

My DAD had a few of these, always told me I was not insured to drive it, till the day came when it suited him for me to do so, great cars, thought I was the Sweeny  ;D ;D ;D

Think that MK3 got to be good value for the money, even as a run around. :)

Rule of 9 ie 1 & 8   2 & 7 etc etc was when you did the tappets static You did the CIH with hydraulic 'tappets' when the engine was running. Great method of covering everything in oil!  ;) I used an old rocker cover on my Manta & 2.2 Carlton with a hole cut in the top so I could get to the adjusters.
