Air conditioned glove box
« on: 01 May 2012, 09:43:11 »

I've got some plumbing from andyc, consists of a flexi hose and an on off slider switch type thing that fits in the bottom of the glove box. That's fine, but where's the best place to plumb the other end into?
Andy has sent the only pic available on epc, but as you can see, it's not overly clear where it should go. Obviously it would have to be somewhere with a constantly cold feed when ac is on. I've no experience what so ever with cc system, so any thoughts? Ta
Parts I have are 6 and 7 and possibly 8

It would have to come out of the heater box, somewhere between the air con evaporator and the heater matrix. Worth having a look down there and see if there's a hole blanked off with a grommet as a first stab?

It's something I am going "retrofit" when I get round to it. I was intending visiting the scrappy & sourcing the bits from a pre-facelift. No idea why they stopped fitting them, yet another "improvement" from Vauxhall.  ::)

Why bother? You can't fit any more than a sandwich in it  :P

My pre-facelift had the cold air supply to the glove box. Didn't really do much IIRC. I did try putting my sandwiches in it but they didn't come out properly cold. :(

A cold box & a freezer block is far more effective.

On my facelift the cold air supply is directed to the back of the radio. I transferred my single DIN DAB radio from my pre-facelift to my facelift and found that the radio is happier (it used to get hot to the touch but it doesn't now & you can feel cool air round the radio facia).

My assumption is that you need to attach the ribbed hose to the spigot that currently blows cool air into the dashboard.

Yes I've sen the cold feed to the radio. Wonder if the radio will mind me t'ing off it... Although I doubt the pipe I have is long enough, and if the cold feed is strong enough. :-\
