Can recomend the halfrauds breaker bar...mine has had some abuse.....sorry spirited use and survived very well.
Think of 4ft tube on bar with large sparky swinging on it to get Land rover hub nuts undone!

I looked at the Halfrauds breaker but its out of budget.

Steve I read your thread last night, so my question is can I use this on the caliper slider pins?

Personally, I never use "spray" grease ... several reasons...

It goes everywhere
It is very "runny" to allow it to spray
You can't just put a "blob" on as the carrier gas spreads it
Impossible to use in a grease gun (yes, I still have one and use it occasionally !!)

IMHO it is far better to by a small "tub" of grease and apply it either with a small paint brush or your fingers.

Just my thoughts .. nowt else .. :)

+1  :y

Halfrauds sell two types. one's castrol and the one i have is another make, cant remember the name.

you dont want the spray as you need to keep it away from the pad material and just lubricate the places where the pad will move on the calliper mount :)

.... ps as for your original question, also use the stuff out the tub for the slide pins... you want to ''paint it on'' and make sure they can move freely when you replace them ;)

i found a big build up in the plastic boot they sit in. this comes off. i got the crap out of this too cos it was sticking and just lubricated the pin.

hope that makes sense.

If the grease is likely to come into contact with any rubber parts then you should use Red Rubber Grease (e.g. slider pins) or (what I may well have used in the past, sshh, don't tell anyone) at a push Castrol LM High Temperature grease which is a Lithium high temperature grease.

Petroleum based grease can or will cause the rubber to swell & split.

For pad/calliper contact areas I use copperslip as although it's not a grease, it's also not likely to melt and run all over your disc..

Eric the car guy uses silicone paste on the slide pins and anti-seize paste for the pad lubrication.

i suppose theres loads of different variants as long as it deals with high temperature.

Silicone paste would work too - the main thing is, as you say, it's high temperature and not petroleum based  :y

Red rubber grease is easier to find over here, though :)

Thanks for the replies. I bought this about 4 years ago so thought might as well use it if I can. I understand its not the easiest to apply but I thought I might get around it by spraying a load of it in a small container or in the lid and then applying it with my fingers  :D. I read that you shouldnt use copper grease on slider pins hence not wanting to buy copper grease for metal to metal contact points and seperate grease for sliders.

sounds good if youve got it already.

like E mentioned though it shouldnt be runny so if it is then i'd pick up a tub. t'was only £3.99 iirc ;)
