Cheers Rob. You ever used this? If so would you recommend bearing in mind Bear doesn't have the sheets to pay for a TechII?

Only the facelift is OBDII if memory serves me, certainly PFL is not, uncertain about MFL.

The cheap computor based code readers ( often referred to as ELM327 ) are not very good .. and require a laptop as well. getting them to communicate can be a right pain.

I bought a "stand alone" one that gets its power from the car and just needs plugging in and turning on. Does the basics but only engine and a little bit of transmission.

There are "cloned" bits of kit out there but discussion of them is verbotten as they mostly breach copyright regulations.

If your car is OBDII they are a very useful piece of kit, but in no way mandatory as for all V6's there is either the paperclip or the pedal trick for reading engine codes.
