« on: 06 May 2012, 22:32:05 »

Right before i buy some tires, does it matter if the size is 245/45/17 insead of 235/45/17 as they will be going on the rear only i thought it wouldnt matter but i just wanted to check.

If it were me then I'd try and fit the same size tyre as fitted by the manufacturer, or at lest try and keep to the same overall diameter (245/40 maybe?).

You may risk upsetting the a.b.s. system otherwise.

The second number is how you work out the the side wall height, granted it's close but not a perfect match...

Yes, and diameter is a function of the width so it will be out.

Who knows if it'll be enough to upset the ABS or if the wider tyres will fit correctly on the rims? I'd just get the right size. Fitting anything different will be a modification, so might affect your insurance. Not worth it. IMHO,

The second number is a percentage of the width (or first number).

45% of 245 m.m.'s is not the same as 45% of 235 m.m.
I'm 5hit at maths but even I can work that out.

Tire is the same as tyre, btw, just I'm not a yank.

But the second number is the height of the sidewall expressed as a percentage of the width.
So a 245/45x17 has a sidewall taller than a 235/45x17. The difference is small, about 6mm.
So it probably won't make enough of a difference to the diameter, and more importantly the circumference, to actually matter.

Makes no odds on the rear as far as physical fit goes.

Add in rim protection on the front for that size and it gets tight to the shock body.

Abs will be fine.

Simple advice would be to stick with the manufacturers recommended sizes and buy the most expensive brand you can afford!

245 would be ok but a bit baloony for a 7.5 rim. If its cheapness you're after then 225 45 would be fine :)

Applogies, been a long day. Wouldn't go wider than 235 on a 7.5 rim.

Got fuddled with my own sizes. 18's here.  :-[
