Thanks for confirming that RobG. :y

So safest bet is to remove both the existing from the box and replace with the set I have kindly been supplied with ??? assuming I don,t fancy spending £97=00 twice for 2 brand " Harry Spankers "  ;D
If they`re known working :)

Can they be tested off the car then,as assume you could run the same lottery with a new part although it would have a warranty.

All the effort of removing/refitting let alone the extra costs of oil/filter /gaskets.

I've just been researching as I have a similar problem.

It's the part labelled 17:

It would seem from the picture from the Opel/Vx parts listing the 2/3 change solenoid is infact cloeset to the centre of the gearbox.or on the r/h side in image.

However it does throw up more confusion as part # 17 which is identified as 2/3 solenoid has VX part # 96014224
Part # 18 which is detailed as 1/2-3/4 shift solenoid has part # 96014593.

Now if I refer back to the solenoid set I have both of these solenoids are absolutley identical ,the only difference being the colour of the 2 feed wires. One has a White/Brown wire going to it and the other has Black/Brown.

If they both do and identical function and they are to all intense and purposes the same part why are they identified as having different source part #,s.

Looking at it again, I'm inclined to agree.

Kevin,

Your inclined to agree the 2/3 shift solenoid is closest to the center of the gearbox as per the image and my picture ?

Or you are inclined that whilst the 1/2-3/4 solenoid appears the same as the 2/3 it is in fact different ??

All help and advise greatfuly received as trying to build up the correct6 mental picture of what and which needs replacing. :-\

Also would it be possible to test solenoids out of the gearbox to establish if they are working correctly ??? :)

Sorry - agree on the solenoid position :y, and on the fact that the part numbers are different on that diagram. :-\

kin-ell people  the two solenoids are interchangeable, the arrow points to the correct solenoid for the 2-3 solenoid. the resistance on a good solenoid is 17.5 t0 18.5 ohms :y

So on the assumption that the gears " hang " changing from 3rd down to 2nd and on occasion the opposite way causing the thud that we both seem to be experiencing, it would be indicating that replacing the solenoid in the top picture R/H side would be the first course of action.

As both of these solenoids are the same they do an identical job ?
One controls the 2-3, t`other controls the 1-2 and 4-3, although both identical in manufacture
