I don't know how many have been following my threads regarding the cdx I bought a few weeks ago. The abs and tc lights on, exhaust blow, the em light - which has now been cured - tepid heater etc. Well, this morning after finishing work, jumped in the car to come home, and the b*****d decided it wasn't going to fire. That's it, I've had e-bloody-nough. I'm going to do one of two things, immediately. I'm either going to swap it with my mate who had my 2.0 cd (yes, he wants the cdx, the bloody old fool) or I'm going to park it up and re-insure my faithful old Previa.
Shame really, because basically it's a decent car, but too many niggles for me to sort out. At the risk of sounding boring, I just haven't got the time.
Any ideas on the non starting, chaps? I reckon CTS or fuel pump relay. It did fire eventually, misfired a tad, then settled down. It drove home perfectly.
I've lost the love now though.

Crank sensor has to be the favourite suspect. Do paperclip test and dont be surprised to get a code 19.
Any joy in finding an ABS ECU yet ?

Yeah, the abs ecu arrived today. Normally when I receive a much needed part, I can't wait to get out and fit it, but with this car, the enthusiasm has completely gone.
Yep, the bloody thing just cranked over and over. I could hear the battery starting to go, the central locking locked and unlocked itself!!! and then it finally fired. All in the works car park at 2 am this morning. Oh, what fun I had.

Also, I've never done the paperclip test. Will probably get the result wrong.

Calm down  . . . it's only a motor  . ..      My advise is don't make any rash decisions on the spur of the moment . count to ten   (thousand)

Dave , reading between the lines I get the feeling you would be happier with a 4 pot  rather than a V6.  End of the day it's your choice .  Still a good car  & still an omega . So plenty of fun to be had with us guys , whichever model you own . But a Previa or what ever it's called

No matter what car you have you will get teething problems but that said, you now have your ABS ECU, if your car turns over and over but does not try to fire it will like already said point to the Crank sensor which are around £55. The hole in the exhaust may be weldable

Why are you randomly changing ECUs etc if you have no diagnosis. Thats not the way to do things on modern cars, you just end up confusing the issue.

Do the paperclip test as the very first thing

Stick with it. In my experience with my car it had been badly neglected prior to my ownership & I reaped the whirlwind, but with the help of the Guys & Girls here it's now well sorted, as yours inevitably will be if you give it a chance
As TB says, read the codes & get the full SP before changing parts willy nilly, as that path leads to Insolvency and ultimately Madness!

It should be gone by Monday, and I should have my 2.0 cd back. I quite enjoyed working on that because of the amount of room around the engine bay. You can actually get to components without having to remove several other parts first. The chaps who's having it knows all the issues, and he's quite happy to take them on. Oh and by the way, the manifold gaskets are leaking. He knows about that too, unlike me when I bought it. Perfectly calm Al.

The car has been plugged in and the fault code pointed to an internal fault in the abs ecu, hence me buying another one.

Sorry mate, won't hear a bad word about the Previa. Ok, it's old, a K reg. But it's gone through three mot's since I've had it without even a bulb having to be changed, in fact when I took it in for the first time, the tester wanted to buy it. Me, the Mrs, daughter and two grandsons went on holiday to the Isle of Wight in it, with all associated luggage and it performed faultlessly. Twin sunroofs, bags of room, and a chain driven engine. What more could you want. It's an automatic, and the selector is on the steering column, so nothing between the seats. I'll definitely not be getting rid of it. Even the aircon still works.

Things ain't getting any better chaps.
It's flattened its battery now. This seems to be a recurring fault with the car. I had to get a jumpstart to get it home from the Wirral.
So, a power drain or an alternator not up to the job, who knows? Who cares any more.
Undoubtably the biggest heap of poo I've ever bought.
I will tell my mate about this latest problem, then it's up to him. If he doesn't have it, I'll probably run it over the bridge.
Either way, it's going.
By the way, is it ok to charge a maintenence free battery? With normal batteries, I unscrew the tops from the cells, but can't with this one. It does seem to have a vent at each end though.

Should be fine to charge it in the normal way.I always do.
