Mr Den. The 2002 Tii was considered a respectably quick car back in the early seventies. I believe they pushed out 130 B.H.P.......and probably weighed less than a ton/tonne.

Mrs Opti's 75 B.H.P Corsa 1.2 would probably crush the scales more. :y

It was indeed a fast wee car Opti - Oh to be back to those days and that certain young lady who loved to dispense golde......well, I'm sure you get my drift. :-X

There's not really a lot to tell Opti - but I'm sure you'll remember how everything seemed to be much more civilised back then: Fewer cars on the road, cheaper fuel - in fact, the summer weather was so good the very the showers, when they made a welcome appearance, had a delightfully golden hue to them. :-* :-*

Reminds me of the blissful summer of 1976. I was but a callow youth of sixteen........but I lost my cherry that year. That summer seemed to last forever. :y :y :y

Had a trabant pull out on me on the 61 near koblenz while doing about 125 in my old Re2000 Golf  :o :o
Must admit, it scared the sh*t out of me  :'( :'(

Had 130 out of my first 2.5 v6 saloon when travelling back on the M62 about 2 am.
And it was still pulling  :o
dropped the wife and daughter off at withernsea one friday and on the way home as i hit the m62 i floored my 2.5 and got to 125 and then thought enough i like my license  :)

An indicated 195 in a rental LP640 sometime in 2007 on this road if I remember correctly:

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/place?ftid=0x0:0x0&q=23.584126,56.057739&hl=en&cad=src:ppiwlink&ei=1ZS-T8ycOceA4gTks63_Bg&dtab=2

One hell of a road trip. Roads dont come any straighter than this.

Many years ago, I had a fairly highly modified Calibra V6 4x4.  Came off a roundabout onto a long, straight bit of dual carriageway that I knew well.  Early Saturday morning so no other cars around.  Took it up to an indicated 165mph and then lifted off to slow for the next roundabout.

After the roundabout there was a few cars, so I returned to legal speeds.  About 2 miles later, a police motorbike pulled me over.  He said if I hadn't slowed down he would never have caught me.   ::)

Anyway, his system measured my average speed at 137mph, and this was over a stretch after I had started to slow down!  :o  That earned me a court appearance, a 28 day ban, and a £400 fine!!

Needless to say, my right foot is a lot lighter nowadays!  :y

A140 or A47 by any chance :-X

2003

Unrestricted Autobahn (empty)

1998 manual MV6 saloon

145 before driver bottled it  :-[

Similarly in the 2.5 manual with 5 adults in. Even on an autobahn at that speed on the bends it was sphincter twitching time.

well to add to the debate

met someone recently who has just bought one of the audi A6 all road jobbies, big estate thing, ugly as sin.  anyway he started boasting about speed he can get from it.  anyways, got me thinking that I could probably still outrun his barge and so could most on here but mine is almost 10 years older and worth a tiny fraction of his.  not going to try it mind but its reassuing having the last laugh.

If it is anything like my brother's Range Rover it has the aerodynamics of a brick and that hits you hard at speed because the resistance builds up as the square of the speed (IIRC.)

Bloody hell, imagine if you did that now! The thought police would probably execute you there and then

Still, you could always lead by example and get your wife to take the hit, whilst lying about it and lording it up over the rest of us
