Hi all my daughter has been round and she wants her front brake pads changing , is it a straight forward job or any special tools needed . I think i have all the tools needed , are the pads held in by means of pins and retainers and no special tool needed to push the pistons back .

I found a picture of the caliper but how the do you get to the pads ? What bolts do i take off .

undo the bolt on the side where the slider part is then lift up caliper to show pads,remove and replace,use "copper grease" 
if you get stuck and il pop up

What a design  have they not got any retaining pins

no,take no more than 5 mins a side if bolts undo ok,alot of calipers are like that

Okedokey cheers ...daughter is coming round about 1pm ... she also mentioned something about a gear linkage problem ...think its the double jointed thingy for gear selection thats making it difficult to engage second gear ...common prob app

very common and Gm do a modified linkage for about £50 which is easy to fit

Pretty standard design. No different to the Omega, except its a lot smaller

Think i glanced at it yesterday .... is it seasy to fit 

If that was a wear issue surely vauxhall should not be charging for it  Having read its a very common problem so its a design/wear fault  So they can charge for a design/wear fault

Yes, thats the kit, make sure its a genuine one as there are some cheap nasty pattern options about.

Dead easy to fit, alignment involves pushing a clip in on the gearbox and inserting a drill bit to hold the gear stick in a certain position and then clamp it up.

Used to take me about 15-20 mins to do one but not seen one with issues for a long time (the later kit is much better and was fitted after a certain date, pretty much all the others out there have been modified already)

The very same design as in Omega front brakes as seen in your pic.... bolts off 8those two in the left of pic), caliper off, new pads in etc... Or just one bolt off and turn the caliper up as adviced above

Cheers chapo's  Just doing the brakes today and then the gearbox in a few weeks ...had a go in it changing gears and its like you have to ram it in 2nd gear to engage and 9 times out of ten it goes into 3rd  All other gears are ok and change down to 2nd also . She was going to get rid of the car but its pretty decent apart from the gear change so told her to hang onto it till the new selector thingy is replaced .
