Bloody MV6!! Hand me a match, please...
« on: 30 May 2012, 11:44:20 »

I am seriously considering breaking this bloody thing for parts, now.

A few weeks ago my autobox failed. Mr Sassahach kindly sourced me a believed good box, which I fitted, and it's been great for several weeks.

Today - I just returned from dropping Soph at work. As I slowed down from 30, close to home, I felt a "Jerk" (a very violent one), the drive seemed to disengage and re-engage. There was then a god awful noise from underneith the car. At first I thought cambelt slippage, it reminded me of the noise when an old 3.0 threw a rod!

Anyway, I quickly ascertained it's coming from the gearbox.

I've now got the car raised up with all wheels off the ground.

ATF check - level is fine.

In neutral, it generally is OK, however in Park, Drive, Reverse, there is an AWFUL clattering noise coming from within the autobox, which increases with engine revs. Sounds much worse than the last failure.

WTF is up with these autoboxes? Are they made of chocolate?????

I have a work attachment in another area very soon and I NEED a car!!!!!

Seriously....  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

If I were in your shoes, I'd be fitting a driver involvement pack. ;)

3 Autos here, 1 at 140K, 1 at, 120K and another at 105k all fine!

My 140k needs some fresh ATF, as the changes are not silky smooth as they should be.

What are you doing to yours?  :o

My 187k MV6 autobox has been through some sagas with me, but apart from dumping the contents of its sump on my drive, along with its thrust washer, never, ever missed a beat.

The 64k one in TBE behaves, but being a 3.2, isn't as smooth as the 3.0

In fact, the only Omega auto ever to give me grief was the AR25s I fitted to my chipped tractor. They didn't last very long ::)

Yup, 5 here as well, 3 'proper' ones, and 2 facelifts.  The TD aside (which was chipped and had awesome power delivery, hence rear tyres only managing 4k), the gearboxes have all been original to the best of my knowledge, and trouble free.
