not always tunnie .what if you cant pay for vx parts because they are to much to pay for not every one can pay vx prices which are a rip off :y

Dearer in the short term, but as Tunnie says, more than likely to be cheaper in the long run cos you'll only do it once ....... cheaper still if you're paying someone else labour.  ;) ;)
well how do you work this out then my mate done his over 3 years ago with patten parts and they do not leak at all and thats without vx parts  8) 8)

He was clearly lucky, but 9/10 patterns with fail. We are not doing this by guess work Ralf, countless members here used pattern then reported within weeks/days they fail. They then end up doing them again, which costs more than using genuine parts in the first place.

Thats why we advise genuine, if you cannot afford the little extra for them. Wait until you can.
That's ok if you're in the possition to save, many of us are not that lucky,so don't rub our faces it just because you are working

Always makes me chuckle when I see a thread started that says something like ''Rocker Gasket Replacement'' as this argument rages on  ;D

I personally would go with the majority and buy the Vx parts.

The job itself is a simple one so maybe there's someone out there who could do a test?  ;D Not me though as I'm still sorting out the bent valves on Ralf following his mechanics' cam cover gasket replacement  ??? ??? ??? ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

What is it with some folks on this thread....  ?

Advice is asked for ... and given .. and then the arguments start .. :(

NO-ONE is rubbing anyones faces in anything .... it is a well proven fact that pattern gaskets do not last as well as genuine, there will be exceptions .. but as a general rule, in this case genuine are better......

That is the advice.. if you wish to ignore it .. fine .. your choice .. but why ask in the first place then ??

It is PROBABLY cheaper IN THE LONG RUN to fit genuine as they appear to last longer. Those of us who think long term ownership recommend that course of action .. you do what you want ... but why the hell start a war over it ???

And NO apologies for shouting, or being blunt, folks looking for a fight should go down the pub or somewhere, not sit on a forum taking offence at everything posted.

I'm not looking to start a fight i'm simply defending myself against tunnie's quote about saving for vx parts.Like i said, not everyone is in the position to be lucky enough to be earning to save enough for vx parts so to me it sounds like he is rubbing our faces in it

I don't really understand this, its been mentioned a few times, that some are "not lucky enough to afford Vx parts"

We as a forum recommend Eternal for exhausts (saving £100's over Kwitfit ect) so many other savings 2.2 Flexi's rather than new cats ect, our whole objective is to make sure repairs are cost effective.

Whats a tank a fuel these days, £80? £90? Gets you want 300 to 600 miles depending?
Tax, £210?
Insurance, £200?

Some people are having issues about paying another £30/40 for genuine gaskets which are proven to last 10 years and 100k?

Is anyone suggesting here, that the way forward is to either fit pattern parts only?

...or vx parts only?

Thanks for all the reading, followed the exelent guides here on OOF and as allways, if it hasnt been for this site my omega would been at the scraped long ago.
Just drived 320 miles and no sign of leaking. I think it was pattern gasket but not shure  :P
But wasnt so much work to change it so I go for vx gasket next time.
Now I have to change the wishbone bushes, was some slight wobbeling sidewayes the last 100 miles when I took this long trip.  :'( :(
