One for the electricians
« on: 04 June 2012, 08:23:49 »

Off to France in the 'van on Friday.

How critical is it if I find the electrical hook-up on site has reverse polarity?

Should I rewire my mains cable if that is the case?

Unless your distribution box in the caravan has a double pole isolator, if you don't & have a breaker trip, then you're only isolating the neutral & not the live. It only takes a few minutes to  rewire your mains lead if it's arse about face. Before you do so though, try another socket ..... that might be the correct way round.  ;)

Aren't the hook-ups normally shucko plugs in France? Which can be plugged-in either way round anyway. ;)

If you have a double pole RCD in the van electrics I wouldn't worry about it too much, TBH.

Even the French are waking up to the advantages of the proper UK style 3 pin plug & socket.  :y
