Powersounder removed just in time
« on: 04 June 2012, 14:02:24 »

Just removed my Powersounder after some helpful advice off a fellow member. The batteries had just started leaking :s never knew these could cause the car to go up in smoke. Lucky escape I think :) Fitted my irmscher backbox today too, along with oil and filter, and now going to fit the electric dipping mirror and clean the sunroof switch. Productive day I think :)

I removed mine today too, although it wasn't leaking and looks ok on the outside. May cut it open later and see what it looks like inside.

Cut my powersounder open and it looks just I may have removed it just in time too. Pics were taken after I had cleaned up the the mess. Circuit board looks ok so may just be salvageable.

Looking @ my service history the main dealer replaced mine in 2009
So is water leaking in to cause the corrosion?

You better get cracking son, it could catch fire tonight. I kept putting mine off for months because I couldnt get the wiper arm off and thought the sounder was ok because I wasnt getting the battery failure beeps. Bought the wiper removal tool (which worked a treat) but a tad too late to save the sounder because the circuit board is fried but at least it wont catch fire now (I hope).

I can get the wiper arm off no problem but dont really want to disturb the scuttle again after re sealing it ..best look into it though soon as it eases off with the rain  :)

My Power Sonder would go off at any moment it felt like it. So I removed it with a rag stuffed in it's hole & then I had great pleasure in hammering a chisel into it. Lifes a little quieter now ;D
