MV6 had a good run
« on: 07 June 2012, 21:33:13 »

I went to see a client today 150km from here. I had the fortunate experience to spend much of the journey on derestricted autobahn. Being a bank holiday today, it was pretty empty on the roads too.

Sitting at 170-190 kmh most of the time, 200+ from time to time. With not much on the roads, and keeping it around that speed, you kinda get used to it .... until you wanna pull over to a rest place for a pee. Start slowing, feel as though you're crawling, glance at the speedo and see that you're still doing over 100 kmh with the P sign approaching quickly.

Car performed reasonably well, but it does need some attention, a service basically. Oh, and cam cover gaskets! Bit sluggish at times, but pulls well in 5th at 160 though. Way home it was slow. The rain we have not had in the past 3 weeks came in one hour. I have not seen so much water on the motorway for a long long time...bloody horrific.

Jeez, it don't half use the go-go juice at those speeds though :o :o

Calls for great bladder control.

The fastest and longest constant speed we ever did was in Germany.

Problem I found with German autobahns is a lot of them are 2 lane, so tanking it down at 130mph, truck pulls out! Have to slow down quite quick, which was fun in Senator!

Then have to wind up speed again, which was fairly quick with 24v version, but still took time, another truck then pulls out.

So amount of actual time spent at higher speeds was not great, so unless you do get an empty run, they are not that much faster than UK Motorways.

That's true some of the time, Tunnie. I was fortunate, as previously mentioned it was a bank holiday, so very little on the roads. Two lanes can cause this problem from time to time, but trucks are not allowed on autobahns on bank holidays. On non-bank holidays, yes, but drivers, even the truckers, are generally reasonably considerate to the faster moving traffic.

I think my car thought it was going home....

I think its something we could learn here, no trucks on public holidays,
but the shops only seem to have a days stock and the world would end.
