I'm not justifying the cost, but these prices will include labour and VaT :-\

No trade, or any other discount on the quoted work either, and the tyre prices are daft, like you said you could probably get Michelin ones for that ::)

If nothing else, you now know what's potentially up with it :y

Yeah, I had no idea a spring had broken  :-[

Not long passed an MOT either!

Budget tyres in stock £113.40 Each

What? For a ditchfinder, no doubt?

I know, 16's too, I paid less than that for mid range 17's!
That 225/55/16 is generally more expensive than 235/45/17 as not so common.

To be fair to the dealers here, they've got to make money somewhere and there are enough people out there that would pay those prices because they know no different, paricularly on a newer vehicle.  Vx dealers have to pay for the steel and glass and free coffee somehow..

And for what its worth there is no way i'd pay any of that!

Springs, can't really do those on preventive maintenance, cambelt, well thats just time for it. As are tyres really as well, aircon again, not a lot you can do there until it breaks.

Think you misunderstood my point, which wasn't a critism at you, it was a 'public notice' for everyone.

This bits didn't all just go wrong together, must have happened over a period of time, but by not spending a few mins going around the car regularly, weren't picked up until an inspection.

Many people think the annual MOT inspection is enough. IMHO, its not, because its not regular enough, and its not thorough enough.

No critism intended :)

Thats my point :y.  For whatever reason - laziness/xbox/family/living away/whatever - if the preventative maintenence isn't carried out, costs can creep up.  Unlike a lot of members who have passed through, I've always said Omegas are cheap to run (ignoring go-go juice) if you keep on top of preventative maintenence, rather than break-fix.

Only cambelt could have been done earlier, other failures could have happened at any time, particularly aircon/springs.

VX must use common sense by looking at the registered omegas on the road and price the parts accordingly ,
there is no other way they would shift the parts they stock or get hold of at over inflated prices esp to folks who dont know any better , they realise yes you can get aftermarket parts but some parts you have to buy from them and pay through the nose for them . Alarming prices they are but a lot of people will pay that ..i for one wont either  :y

Manufacturers have no qualms about looking at stock that hasn't moved for years, and simply disposing of it. Many of the specialist old parts suppliers get much of their stock by saving the storemen the hassle of dumping it all in a skip. This is true of any type of stores. I've done it myself; we needed the space and so over £8k of old spares went in the bin. There had been no movement on any of it in 8 years. I suspect the previous stores manager used to sneak in when everybody else had gone home and admire it all!

Considering that the youngest Omega is 8 years old, do really think that Vauxhall have even the slightest interest in them?
