Carbon Fibre Parts

Composite Materials being my 'thing':
I`m considering of pulling some moulds off 'popular' Miggy items: wing-mirror shells, grilles, estate spoilers or W.H.Y?

Then, I could lay-up some Glass-fibre/Carbon-fibre or Aramid (Kevlar) spare-parts (Seeing BobDent`s mangled mirror gave me the idea)

I might consider making 'one-offs' (gear knobs/trim) or perhaps some O.O.F member-only 'specials': suggestions welcome.  :y

Carbon fibre headlight adjusters would be a good thing to make!!!!

Carbon fibre monocoque in the shape of a Lotus 7?  :-*

More seriously, I guess interior trim bits to replace the wood / silver items (dash surround, centre console trim, door trim panels, etc) would generate some interest.

BTW there's a guy on another car forum I visit who's affectionately know as "carbon tart" following over-indulgence in this area. Sadly his carbon fibre Caterham nose cone was last seen going through a 5 bar farm gate at about 90 MPH. :-[

I think it lived to fight another day after a little patching, which is a testimony to its' strength.

Inside the headlight is a small plastic item that breaks.....think its made of some sort of glass loaded plastic.

Trouble is I suspect it would need to be injection moulded rather than laid up on a former

Might be possible to do in a small vacuum fixture: anyone got a pic. of this item, to put me in the picture?  :y

hi debs. what sort of prices would we be looking at for carbon fibre bits. is it expensive?? just curious as have been thinking of a project to keep me busy this year and carbon fibre would help. is there a limit to wich parts you could actually copy/make.  :)

Composite raw materials aren`t too costly, it`s the 'time' to make things that determines cost.

I use S-glass, Aramid (Kevlar) and Carbon-fibre woven cloth (off a roll) laminated in epoxy-resin matrices.....`though really, there`d be no practical limit in what size/type of item could be copied/made.
I`ve made 'teenie' things, right upto whole aircraft structures in Carbon-fibre.  :D

For popular items I`d make a mould to make cheaper 'multiples' of parts....but 'one-offs' wouldn`t be a problem.  :y

Ive got an Irmscher front bumper that could be copied, im sure there will be a few people after those :y

Would you consider doing some non-Omega parts? I was planning on doing some side panels for my RD350LC from carbon. I recon it would look groooooooooooooooooovy.

Well I still need to fix the front bumper off of Vectra ST (http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1204205798/0#0) and a carbon replacement would be stunning, but realistically my budget is probably more suited to a nice Irmy style grille.
What would be very cool, would be carbon headlight surrounds (The bit your headlight washers poke through, if you don't remove them like me  ;)).
