could do with replacing, may consider gas ones because of price and availability but which gas ones would be best,but will stillshop around for original ones.

If swapping self levelling shocks for normal ones. You really need to swap the springs to normal ones as well. The rear self levelling shocks and springs are designed to work together. The springs can't cope with put the air shocks to support them. SL springs are very soft.
Kyb are a good option for springs if that helps shopping.

I guess it boils down to personal preference really 
Replacing the SL shocks seems straightforward ish, and is a standalone job. If you decide to go down the aftermarket or standard shock route, whilst they are much cheaper, you also need to change the springs which then affects the cost. There are a few different combinations out there, so it becomes a matter of choice and finances.
It's a job I'm going to have to make a decision on in the next few months too

Looking at shocks noted that left rear spring was broken off at the base when removed top and bottom of coil was 10.5mm thick and the right hand side was 15.5mm thick, replaced with new springs noted that both were 15.5mm thick top and bottom so understand reason of broken one but not known which was original one,  been given a quote for used self level shocks said were in good condition that is the chance you take with a dealer I suppose all options still open at the moment.
