Could anybody advise is AVG antivirus software anygood.

Purely personal opinion .. but AVG is no longer as good as it used to be ... has turned to bloatware and seems to slow systems down considerably.

I have changed my allegiance and now use, and recommend, "Avast free" .. it does what it says and does it pretty well IMHO

Agreed,found much the same myself,now using Avira which seems ok and have used Avast and thats ok too

AVG isn't as good as it used to be as others have said. I've always liked Comodo Internet Security. Firewall and antivirus all in one and I love the way it works. Put it on all the machines I build.

Running 2 or more AV solutions simultaneously will simply bog the machine down.

avast for me, I have used AVG and found it slowed my pc down, avira was missing viruses and didn't update quickly enough

Yeah I'd agree with above, it used to be very good. But on my Media PC I use to watch films on big TV, its been constantly crashing, even refused to uninstall, had to get a little tool to remove it all.

I too have stopped using AVG and now use Avast (free version) Seems to work well. But I also run Adaware which finds things that get through the av programmes.

Dumped AVG last month because it was slowing the laptop down too much.

I gave Zone Alarm combined antivirus and firewall a try but tbh, its crap and will be getting removed when I can be arsed 

I think it was TheBoy who recomended Microsoft Esentals so I'd give that a go

Scrap the one then
