Power Sounder????
« on: 14 June 2012, 18:59:29 »

Just a quick one, been looking through a load of posts so thought i'd ask also...

Neighbours are getting really annoyed with the omega alarm going off between 4 &6am every morning....

It's a full blown alarm going off horn everything, could this be the power sounder or something different??

Thanks
Rob

Powersounder needs doing but ive read a bit about the bonnet switch also??

Shall I disconnect that also?

Doesn't seem like a powersounder issue as its a full on alarm going off rather than a chirp

Still best to disconnect and bin the powrsounder in my opinion.. Apparently a number of fires have been caused by a faulty powersounder. I would also disconnect the horn alarm. I believe it is a separate system from the horn on your steering wheel.

Do the powersounder first, see how it goes. If alarm still goes off, disconnected bonnet switch.

IME almost certainly the powersounder. As you may have read elsewhere, the soldered-in batteries corrode and the leakage causes random short circuits in the powersounder control circuits. This is what I found on mine when I took it apart. It sometimes responds to resetting, but in a random way. Generally, the more embarrasssing the time / location, the harder it is to get it to reset.

And the have been blamed for serious fires, as IIRC the powersounder is fed directly from the battery with no fuse.

Rip it out before it does any damage.

Cushty,

I've removed the whole thing, power sounder and horn, I locked car with window down and all I have is flashy lights now...

I had a note through the door stating "there would be a riot in the village if the alarm goes off again"

I sleep right through it to be honest!!

Power Sounder is the alarms separate battery source so if your main battery goes flat and some nice thief decides to break in you car the alarm will still sound.
They do like already said above leak acid out onto the wires and can cause fires, there have been a couple on the forum  :o
Removing the Power Sounder or disconnecting is a good idea :y
I would have personally left the horn in there though, as like you have said the alarm will no longer sound if broken into :)
