automaticgearbox leaking atf

hi went to change my oil and fiter tonight prior to driving to germany on sunday whe i jacked car up i found atf dripping quite heavy from between bell housing and the front gearbox sump :-[ it appears to come from the top of box and running down the side any ideas please but it looks like germanys out the window miggy is a 2.6 tony

Just a thought. The power steering reservoir and pipes are up there and fluid is same colour.

Did have something similar on my X reg and fluid was coming from the bottom pipe. Re-seated clip and it seemed to cure it

Might be worth a check

Yep, check power steering first. :y

If it's not that, check if there's oil inside the bellhousing by removing the rubber bung.

Most likely suspects on the gearbox are probably the oil seal on the front of the gearbox that seals it against the torque converter nose and the gasket where the bellhousing bolts onto the gearbox body, as this has lots of oilways in it.

However, do check the breather that runs up from the top of the gearbox to the rear of the engine. If the pipe is missing or damaged it could spit fluid out, and if it's blocked it could allow the gearbox casing to pressurise, forcing fluid out through the seals.
