Speeding fines to go up by 50%
« on: 15 June 2012, 01:03:07 »

Going to go up from £60 to £90. Netting Government an extra £33.5m a year.  >:( >:( >:( >:(

Other fines for not using a seat belt or using a mobile phone are going up by the same amount, so in total the Government will net an extra £100m per year.

Their 2% inflation target obviously does not apply to the Government or any Government department like the Post Office.

The Government have admitted there is a £300m tax shortfall due to a drop in fuel duty, with motorists driving more efficient cars with lower fuel consumption and road tax.

Tax take 38% of GDP, Government spending 45% and still rising, no economic growth to make up the shortfall.

To eliminate the deficit they are going to keep plucking those goose feathers until they take 45% of your money in tax, which will equate to 60-65% of what you earn, if you are working and on an average wage.  If you are in a higher rate tax bracket, then even more. >:( >:( >:( >:(

If no-one gets caught speeding they will find some other way of getting the money from us,so actually if you dont speed you will   pay,by one means or another. ;)
The alternaitive is to cut spending but it has become very clear that they have no intention of doing that. And we have a PM and Chancellor who have the cheek to call themselves Conservatives. >:(

Wait'll I tell ye son - the majority of Conservatives occupying the seats on the left hand side of the House of Commons Chamber have a cheek calling themselves Conservatives.

Just wondering if fines are going up 50%, if on the motorway the Ode Bill will let us drive at 105mph to allow us our moneys with as it were? :D ;D

Quite so, but I'm sure that those balding geese will rest easy in the knowledge that our government has given the assurance that we are, all of us, in this together - so I’m confident that this sacrifice (in their eyes) will be one well worth (everyone but them) bearing.

Not to be churlish however, I’m so appreciative that they have decided to lubricate this shafting by implying that this is being done over continuing concerns for road safety given the dismal standards of driving often seen on our roads - that, for me at least, moves this money grab into a slightly less despicable category; emanating not so much from out and bandits more so from predators with a conscience.

The one thing I've never understood is.... We're not supposed to break the 70mph speed limit, but most of us drive vehicles that can go over the losing your licence limit :-\ ???

I'll tell you why, it's because they want you to speed, they want you to use more fuel, because that means more £'s for them.
It's win win for them.
I've noticed that drivers are driving at slower speeds in all speed limits. Slower means less fuel & less in fines, hence the 50% increase.

So what would happen if we all went out & bought an electric car with a GPS device fitted that electronically controlled our speed so we couldn't speed anywhere. What would they do then I wonder!!!!

Oblige us to pay (by way of taxation) £25 for a bottle of beer and so on. ;D

What is obvious however is this - those who contribute to the Treasury by way of motoring taxes hold a very powerful weapon indeed - should they band together to remind the government that there's only so much blood can be taken from the stone.

Just a general comment - I'm not calling people out. :-* :-*
