The only way to ensure the rust does not come back is to cut out the rusty areas and then weld in new metal. Not really a d.i.y. job...

Try rust converter treatments such as...
KuRust or Jenolite (do they still make that?) or similar.

You'll still need to scratch or grind out the worst of the rust, then treat with your chosen inhibitor then zinc primer on top of that, then paint.

A quick 'Google' found this....
Quote
The only way it can work is if you wire brush as much rust off as you can then jenolite, let dry, wire brush again, preferably on drill or grinder, then repeat ad nauseum till the rust pits no longer go black when you have applied fresh jenolite rust remover. i.e. all rust removed.
BTW, don't buy jenolite rust remover solution. Get some phosphoric acid from Ebay or tinternet and dilute is so you have a 5-10% solution. This is now the same as jenolite rust remover solution!
Basically you have to remove ALL the rust to stop it coming back again. If an area is very pitted them the best thing is to cut it out and weld in clean steel.
Media blasting or chemical dipping and e-coating are the best ways of rust removal, but for the home restorer in his garage on a limited budget, the above method can have some degree of success, you have to be absolutely ruthless with the rust though!

Supasaw, there is not a quick fix for rust like that! Nothing you can buy and apply will get rid of that much rust.

You would need to grind it out and then fill the the metal.

You  would have a lot of work to make that look good, I see you live in Lithuania, are Omega's hard to come by where you live?  If not I would suggest you live with the rust or get another Omega that is not as rusty.

Well I desperately want omega, but I have a very limited budget. But What I have found within my budget this is very good omega seriously  :)  Other ones that I saw was in much worst condition, Interior  fu?k up, suspension also etc... These days it is hard to find good megas, not crashed and "renewed". My Omega was in the small crash but they "fixed" with new paint (without any anti rust treatment), they "rewinded" the odometer (my car is from 95' but the odometer show only 155000km....c'mon !....)
I know that my omega is a zombie'ish but hey....If you have driven omegas...You know what that feeling is.....
In my future plans - definitely omega FL  :y  but for now I have what I have  ;)

Sveiki

We all know what you mean about driving an Omega, but there comes a time in every cars life when you have to either spend lots of money renovating it, or live with all it's faults.

I really wished you were closer to the UK, I'm sure many members would love to help you out,I know I would.

Hi Supersaw,
If you really love the miggy that much then do what I do and spend what you have to even if it hurts like hell. The end results are well worth it.
All advice is correct because the only way you will get rid of it would be to cut or grind it back to good solid metal and then rust treat the good metal before repairing the damage. In your case new metal would have to be welded back in then filler applied to make it good before painting.
Your probably better off than we are though in one respect because our annual MOT test is a killer if there are any signs of corrosion cos it makes the tester look even harder.
As for Jelonite....it was really great years ago but it is many years since I have seen that on sale. If you can try asking some steel fabricators or bridge maintenance men and they might just give you a bit of the commercial grade stuff they use. If not then as said, Kurust is good one.
Good luck and hope you end up with the results you want.  :y

Definitely.

Thing is the car is almost 20 years old so it's going to be rusty. I had my wheel arch done cos i'd ballsed it up. that wasaround 6-8 months ago and bubbles are back. he said the only truly effective way of getting rid would be to replace the panel. now as my affected area is rear wheel arch that panel isn't a case of unscrew/replace and i'm not even going to tell you what i was quoted  :-[

It;s only bubbling up a bit. i can hack the bubbles, its the brown ''stain'' i cant stand.

anyway point is it will never truly go (imo) unless you replace doors, panels etc so you have to compare your love of the car with your available money. not worth it on a 20 year old car imo but i'm sure anyone who is omega crazy would do it :)

Cut as much rust out as you can and grind the rest of rust right down to bare metal , treat with rust treatment and prime . Any largish holes i have filled with fibre glass on previous cars as long as its not structual , fibre glass matting when cured is more flexible and wont crack like normal filler ...i have used this on my wheel arches and smoothed down to good effect . Just normal body filler wont last imo . Needing to cut rust out one of my doors as the bullseye rust ball wont accept any treatment , ill cut the rust out place put in a backing plate and fill with fibre glass . No im not an expert but thats what works for me other than replacing the entire body panels and doors  :) Hth .
