How do I stop my wiper blades clunking when they change direction?

I have Vx blades on both the Omega and the Corsa. The blades are six months old on both cars but the Corsa wipes without a clunk.

What to do?

i changed the arms as the springs had gone weak.

Just had a look at mine. They are GM but are made of plastic and every joint is slack.

Looks like I will be getting some new blades.
I know any new blades would be an improve but has anybody any opinions on the Aero style??

I have that sort of thing on mine. At £6.50 delivered for all three it was worth a go. They work really well, and as I tend to replace wiper blades as soon as the performance drops off, is a big saving. Got them from an Ebay listing.

Been on the same AERO blades now for 13 months, no problems. I did buy another pair for the MOT but didn't need them. Got them from ebay, I forget the username but they were less than six quid the pair.

edit:- Last pair was from mikeli051 - AERO FLAT WINDSCREEN WIPER BLADES VAUXHALL OMEGA 94-ON - although not fitted yet, they look very good. Quick delivery, well packaged, recommended. (No I am not on commission)

Definately the blades. They move 15mm when they change direction

Strongly suspect the only aero blades worth bothering with are Bosch aero blade twins.
Expensive but last along the lines of two years.

GM are cheaper traditional spring loaded ones are good for the money. But the spring pressure points do mark the screen over time. The Bosch flat blades don't have that issue, but are slightly more prone to lift at high speed.

The thumpimg is an odd one IME. It only seems to occur at the top of the stroke. Not sure if that's because it's nearer the driver at that point but there appears to be no thump at all at the bottom of the screen on mine. Don't know if your experience is the same...?

Also on mine the thump varies in loudness. I think this depends on the wind direction out side the car? A cross wind from one side of other can make the sweep almost silent or exaggerate it depending on wind direction.
So that makes me wonder that the paly in the linkage is at fault. There are two long connecting rods with nylon ball joints in the mechanism under the screen that can be replaced. They take some of the play out, but with leverage over that large a radious it's never going to release the collective play completely.

All assumes the wiper is solidly mounted to the arm of course...?

Edit...By lift at high speed, I do mean high speed. And only slightly.

I've used aero blades now for some time - found them to be quiet, efficient at wiping, no lift at speed, and mine have lasted well.

Its the blades. They are made with materials which have masses of tolerance. The Corsas' are all metal construction  and are much more rigid. Almost zero play in the joints.

Time to try the Aero blades
