Looks like a simple case of "human error" ... but of course .. no one on OOF ever gets anything wrong ... do they ...  :)  :)  :)

natwest what a joke >:( >:( was expecting money in my account today but due to computer issues have to wait now. was supposed to go food shopping but now no money in what am I to do. no wonder banks lose customers and faith in the public who are good customers. it's diffrent when you owe them money shame we have to rely on them so much >:( >:(

rant over ;D ;D

We should implement a national bank, 100% owned  by the taxpayers of this country. It would be compelled to lend money to small business...........rather than the f**k you we're in it for ourselves attitude of the big banks. No bonus payments for failure will be tolerated, as is currently the norm........just an honest days pay for an honest days work. (How many bank bosses will know what that is?). Taking a four hour lunch, followed by 18 holes of golf, is not considered hard work by people who live in the real world.

Banks should be a servant of the people, and not the master's of an elected government.

I feel sure that Albs and Nickbat will concur. :y

And where would they get the money to lend to all these small businesses ? Bearing in mind that if they are compelled to lend to them, they will be lending money to many businesses which will inevitably fail,so they will be losing money hand over fist. ::)

Try,being the operative word. They seem to be the only remaining financial institution i have encountered with any form of customer service.

...although it has to be said, any bank can have a computer glitch like this. Presumably?
Any company that uses computers will get glitches but normally they are resolved (at least with us) within a couple of hours, whatever has happened to the Nat West is either a major system fault or a serious balls up by their IT team

I wonder if they tried switching it off and on again ?  ;D

I think us the UK tax payers already majority own two banks RBS and Lloyds, which we would be better off not doing, so please don't even consider adding a third, loss making disaster.

Nat West is the best of the two. They are relying on recovering through strong in your face marketing campaigns, that they know you won't fail to notice. They are currently three days into their latest marketing campaign called: "Helping our customers too save their money". When asked: "Won't freezing your customers accounts, cause problems"? A marketing intern replied: "No, not at all, if it is a deposit account, we are currently giving a very generous 0.049% interest rate".

When asked if it would affect this years profits: "It might if we ever made any, but if the losses are bigger than expected, once we have paid our record bonuses, we know we can rely on the everlasting generosity of the UK taxpayer. We bankers have to keep up our professions standards and appearances: 27 bedroom weekend retreats, Aston Martins, Bentleys and the odd Royce, not to mention a wardrobe full of Saville Row suits don't come cheap". The interviewer that said in these times of hardship, shouldn't you be cutting back on your lifestyle: "Like everybody else in these recessionary times, we have cut back it is now only strictly Monday to Thursday for the 3* Michelin restaurants, the finest wines and vintage champagnes, then onto an exclusive gentlemen's club, hence the need for the little 27 bedroom country cottage for the weekends.

After finally admitting their was an IT problem, they have issued a statement from the head of their outsourced IT department, he said: "No worries, it is only an infinite loop, when 64 bit counter get round to 0 again, it go onto next account. Chief programmer had accident with rickshaw this morning, when back in 2 to 3 weeks, he fix no problem".

Dreadful as it is, you can't fault Natwest for trying to help out their customers with late opening and even Sunday opening :y

I've (thankfully) never had an account with Natwest, but that's not stopped them sending bailiffs to my door demanding a few hundred quid that I dont owe!

Bank of Scotland always seem to crop up in the back ground of these fiascos.

I once went into a branch of T*at west when sussing out which bank to move to from Lloyds. Clearly their advertising is utter rubbish. I went to HSBC in the end and have had very few problems. Those I have had have been delt with in a professional manner.

Clearly there will be somebody immediately pop up and say they have had nothing but agro with HSBC. But can only speak as I find.

I used to bank with Lloyds but they were rubbish, been with HSBC about 10 years now and all good so far :y

Been with them for about 30 years now, began when they were Midland Bank, moved from Barclay's who I kept falling out with, seems like they did not really like me spending their money, ::) ::) :-X I thought that was what banks were for...... :D :D  All a very long time ago now.... :y :y

Of course it's a pain in the arse for many, and I sympathise with those that have had difficulties as a result. And it comes at a time when the banks are under scrutiny for everything they do. But it is also a shame that the general population jump on the band wagon - banks are useless, we would be better off without them bla bla bla.
I have had internet banking, cash cards, etc for years. Never had any significant problems. Years ago when I had UK bank accounts, never any notable problems.
So when something like this happens, the media jump on it, highlight the worse case scenarios, find the victims with the saddest stories, and send a general negative message across the country.
I worked closely for years with IT guys in the financial sector. When performed upgrades or any extraordinary function, they tested, tested and re-tested. When the time came to "go live", if things went wrong, they sat there until it was right. If that was all night, and all the next day, that's how it was. And I have done it.
Why can't people just accept that once in a while things do go wrong. You accept it when it is the Omega. You just deal with it.
Just think how long you've had functions that rely on computers. Just the simple cash point card. And in all those years how many problems have their been?
For me, internet banking for at least 10 years in 2 countries. No significant issues.
Just a shame that the vast majority of the population feel compelled to moan at any possible opportunity they get.

Anyone genuinely inconvenienced by this cock up ought to keep evidence and submit a claim. Paul Lewis ,was on breakfast Tv this morning, off the BBC Money Box seems to think they will pay out. They may try and head off individual claims by giving a blanket one off payment of say £50 to every customer to stop individual claims. I bet right now they have a working party figuring out whats best. Hats off to them opening on Sunday, good start.

The thing is OOMV6, I think people are right to moan.  Bit of a difference from getting in a car and not being able to do financial transactions. Britain is a leader in all things Bank and technology. It isn't Uganda! They take enough money off everyone and should be able to offer an effective service. I worked in business where critical upgrades were done. There was always a fall back plan and the implications of "falling back" assessed. Without people"moaning" nothing would ever change.
