changed crankshaft sensor but still wont start
« on: 24 June 2012, 01:02:08 »

Hi All, I have a y reg omega 2.6. It had been cutting out for a week or so and then wouldnt start at all. EML came on and from info off this site I did pedal test and it showed crankshaft sensor. I just replaced this but it still wont start. A friend squirted something called quickstart into the carb and it did fire once or twice but then nothing. Any ideas? btw eml still on with same codes.
thnx

would of said that the cam sensor is the one needing changing and the crank sensor is a fault from the cam sensor, as they work together for the timing of the engine.
also to add dont use copy sensors, only gm origanl parts.

Cam sensor on the v engines is almost bullet proof.

Was the crank sensor genuine...? Pattern are worse than useless.

Might be wort quoting the exact code, via pedal trick...?

When we go the 2.6 Estate, had issues with cutting out.  Selling dealer replaced crank sensor, which didn't cure.  Then replaced cam sensor which cured.  Codes had showed both crank and cam sensor according to dealer.  All done under warranty.

but we know that he means throttle body  ;)

The scary bit is that someone squirted quickstart into the inlet. On a good day it allows a 50 year old engine with a feeble ignition system to wheeze into life. On a bad day it causes unburnt fuel and air in the inlet plenum to detonate and launch the plenum into orbit ;D

Just got the fault codes  0170, 0173, 0335.  Originally (pre sensor change) 0335 was 1st code displayed. Now it is last if that means anything.

Btw I'm near Preston Lancashire area.
Thnx

0170 & 0173 points to either a vac leak or dodgy MAF. You`ve still got the 0335 for crank sensor. Reason engine is still not firing is faulty crank sensor...............no signal, no fuel. As asked, was the sensor genuine VX

No I don't think so. I don't see any make on it. It was sourced from a garage supplier who runs vans up and down the country. It said Something like intermotor  on the box.

Is it normal for vac leak or dodgy MAF to so themselves only when the sensor fails? I ask because before it stopped working there was no eml on and therefore I guess no codes. (or maybe eml only shows if there are specific significant codes - which would make sense???)

As you can tell I know very little about cars :-[

I would start by fitting a genuine sensor and then take it from there. It may be the case that the other codes disappear when the new crank sensor is fitted. There are some parts which need to be genuine rather than pattern and the crank sensor is one of them. :y
Assuming the genuine sensor sorts the problem, ask for your money back for the pattern sensor. ;)

If you post up which part of the country you are in there may be someone nearby who could assist. :y
