strange noise, shot wheel bearing or...?
« on: 28 June 2012, 21:35:59 »

Noticed strange noise comming from the back of the car this morning.
Noise appears only when driving faster (over 70 75 kph) and noise isn't constant)
It is like something is noticeably banging onto something else.
It isn't to loud but it definitely is there.
Also seems the bumps and corners affect it (can be heard more often on bumps and twists).
Exhaust seems to be in its place so I don't think it is it.
Can this be rear wheel bearing, shock or something else?

Bearing = rumble?
Shock mount = knocking?
SL shock = banging over bumps?

In my experience rear wheel bearings make a constant moan/rummble in a straight line, get louder when loaded (right bearing in a left hand corner) and quieter when unloaded (corner the other way or cresting a hump back bridge).

I have one on the way out now and its been doing since I bought the car four months ago without getting much worse. I still cant feel play in the wheel either or I'd have changed it by now. My last omega was exactly the same and drove on it for about 6 months still not feeling any play in the wheel but in the end changed it because it was getting on my boobs.

Not a nice job! think the garage may have to do this one as I'm feeling lazy.

It is not rumble nor knocking
Best described is something like huming with some slight kocking,
Seems to be more loud if rear seats are ocupied

Aha ok I see what you mean but cannot see how these cups could make this kind of noise.
Thanks for the idea though  :y
